Top 3 Types of 7-Hydroxymitragynine Products to Try

Brie L.

The psychoactive and medicinal effects of kratom have been known for thousands of years. Product makers put kratom powder in capsules for a quick kratom dose and also sell powder by the container so you can perform your culinary experiments.

Over the past few decades, though, scientists have learned so much about the chemicals within the kratom plant (alkaloids) that are actually responsible for kratom’s benefits. These discoveries have allowed product manufacturers to isolate these alkaloids and give users extremely pure products. Mitragynine and 7–hydroxymitragynine (usually shortened to 7–OH) are the two primary alkaloids in kratom.

Does that sound good to you? There’s certainly no harm in learning a little more about 7–hydroxymitragynine products, is there?

What is 7-Hydroxymitragynine? Intro to Kratom

To understand 7–hydroxymitragynine, we should provide a little background information on kratom. The kratom plant, which has a scientific name of Mitragyna speciosa, is an evergreen plant mostly found in Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and other Southeast Asian countries.

Kratom might be the most dynamic herbal substance you’ve never heard of. For millennia, locals brewed kratom tea and smoked kratom leaves for their pain-relieving and mildly stimulating effects. The more kratom you take, the more likely the effects will slide away from energizing and toward relaxing. The vein colors of kratom also impact the effects users feel.

7–hydroxymitragynine (say that five times fast) is one of the two main alkaloids present in kratom leaves that cause physiological effects. Mitragynine is the other main alkaloid. Those alkaloids kind of sound familiar if you squint your eyes, and that’s no accident.

What’s the difference between mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine?

One of the biggest differences between mitragynine and 7–hydroxymitragynine is their differing amounts in kratom leaves. Mitragynine often makes up around 66 percent of kratom’s alkaloid content. 7–OH, on the other hand, normally makes up no more than two percent of kratom’s alkaloid content, which comes out to roughly 0.04 percent of the mass of a typical kratom plant.

Don’t let that fool you, though—7-hydroxymitragynine is much more powerful than mitragynine. It is, in fact, up to 46 times more powerful than morphine. Yes, we said morphine. If 7–OH were as plentiful in kratom as mitragynine, one kratom leaf would likely be enough to incapacitate an adult.

In general, mitragynine is more associated with physical energy and improved cognition. 7–OH is much likelier than mitragynine to induce relaxation, drowsiness, and analgesia (pain relief). These varying effects are partly due to the two alkaloids’ different affinities for binding to opioid receptors. While they are both partial agonists (activators) of opioid receptors, 7–OH has been shown to bind more tightly.

One other wrinkle here is that 7–OH is actually a metabolite of mitragynine. That means your body will convert a small percentage of mitragynine into 7–OH whenever you consume kratom products. Scientists aren’t yet sure how much mitragynine the body typically metabolizes into 7–OH.

Is 7–OH Addictive?

Like kratom, 7-hydroxymitragynine can result in physical dependence after prolonged, consistent use. Because 7–OH interacts with the body’s opioid receptors at a higher rate than mitragynine, it’s possible that 7–OH products may be more likely to cause dependence than regular kratom products.

Many people recovering from acute opioid use disorder have found success with kratom, as it binds to many of the same receptors as natural and synthetic opiates. Kratom may partially alleviate opioid withdrawal symptoms. However, no kratom treatments for opioid use disorder have been approved as of yet.

Will 7–OH Show Up on a Drug Test?

Standard 5-panel drug tests do not look for 7–OH or kratom in general. Only specialized drug tests, as well as some 10-panel tests, can detect the presence of 7–OH. That isn’t a concern for most Americans, though, as kratom is legal in 44 states.

As of early 2025, kratom is currently illegal in the following states:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Indiana
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont
  • Wisconsin

Popular 7–OH Products

Isolating and extracting 7–OH from kratom leaves has led to some exciting developments in kratom products. If kratom powder (dried and crushed kratom leaves) doesn’t particularly appeal to you, you might consider trying one of the three 7–OH products we’ve highlighted below.

Our Top 7–OH Tablet Product: Rave Kratom Mixed Berry Tablets

Perhaps the easiest and most popular way to consume concentrated 7–OH is through specially formulated tablets. These tablets from Rave Kratom might seem tiny, but they pack quite a punch. This product is good for users who want a boost in their physical energy and overall cognition.

Don’t immediately swallow these tablets, though—chew or dissolve them under your tongue. The mixed berry flavor makes this a yummy experience.

Our Top 7–OH Extract Shot: OPiA Liquid 7-OH Shots

A little bit goes a long way with OPiA’s liquid shots. This stuff is concentrated and refined. One 30-mg bottle is enough for three servings. You might want to work up to this product before throwing yourself in the kratom deep end.

If all goes well, though, you are in for a euphoric experience. Many users also report pain relief. Whatever effects you feel from OPiA’s extract, you’ll feel them quickly—within 10 minutes.

Our Top 7–OH Edible: Exodus – Bite Ohmz 7–OH Chocolate

Chocolate goes well with just about anything, right? We certainly think so, but you don’t have to take our word for it. Instead, you can go straight to the source and munch on some delicious chocolate bars from Exodus. Each pack comes with two bars that each contain 25 milligrams of 7–OH.

You might want to start with half a bar for your first time. And don’t forget the rule of thumb for edibles—always wait just a little bit longer before you eat the rest of the serving if you aren’t yet feeling anything.

What is the Optimal 7-Hydroxymitragynine Dose?

The standard dosing for kratom doesn’t really apply to 7–OH products. Smaller kratom doses, which are more likely to produce energizing effects, range from one to five grams. Any dose greater than five grams (or, for some people, as little as three grams) can bring on supreme relaxation and sedation.

We strongly recommend following the dosing instructions printed on your particular product. If you want to start conservatively (never a bad idea), take half of the recommended dosage.
