What is Full-Spectrum CBD?
When you’re in the CBD industry, you’re always learning! From tinctures to terpenes to THC and more, our heads are already spinning. Here at The Green Dragon CBD, our priority is to educate and inform our customers. Going beyond just purchasing a CBD product and understanding why it’s a good fit for their needs. We’re here to help explain those terms that frequently pop up. Now, when you explore CBD products you can break information down into digestible nuggets. Today, let’s answer the question: what is full-spectrum CBD?
When you purchase CBD extracts, there are three main types of extracts available. These are full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and isolate CBD. Each has slight differences that may be more preferred from consumer to consumer. In one sentence, a full-spectrum CBD product is a substance that contains all of the extracts that are naturally found in the cannabis plant, including flavonoids, terpenes, and other cannabinoids. In every cannabis plant, there are more than 100 different cannabinoids, more than 150 terpenes (this is what affects the plant’s fragrance), and about 20 different flavonoids (which are similar to terpenes in their therapeutic effects). As THC is one of the cannabinoids found in the plant, there will be trace amounts in full-spectrum CBD products. This always will be 0.3% of Delta-9 THC or less to be federally legal. It’s important to note that this low level of THC is not strong enough to have any significant psycho-active or euphoric effects.
What Is Full Spectrum CBD?
Full-spectrum CBD is often considered to be more effective than other forms such as isolate or broad-spectrum in the CBD community. This is because full-spectrum CBD contains all compounds producing the “entourage effect.” This allows the elements to fully work together rather than having the effects of only a single cannabinoid (CBD). However, it's important to note that some forms of broad-spectrum CBD products could be even better. Top brands have created proprietary concentrations of key cannabinoids to still take advantage of the entourage effect and in fact create a better result through specific formulations.
All forms of CBD can take effect in the body by processing through our endocannabinoid system. Taking CBD triggers your natural endocannabinoid system (ECS) through two types of receptors, CB1 and CB2. It signals your body’s organs and various systems to restore themselves into balance. In this way, it reduces the “overreaction” of your body which is causing it to trigger pain and inflammation.
How Does It Affect the Body?
While there’s still a great deal of research to uncover to confirm the positive effects, research suggests that it can help as an anti-inflammatory, for anxiety, muscle spasm relief, pain relief, anti-seizure, and more. In a 2018 study, researchers suggested that full-spectrum CBD is more effective for pain relief than an isolate or broad-spectrum because of the combined effects of CBD and THC, even though the amount of THC is small. Additionally, others may prefer full-spectrum CBD because it is a more natural option. This is less processed than others that need to extract certain chemicals.
Benefits and Factors
Full-spectrum CBD products are incredibly popular in all forms and are widely used by many for multiple different needs. However, some may prefer an isolate or broad-spectrum if they are fearful of a drug test and even the chance of 0.3% of THC is a risk. Depending on the drug test, there could be a small possibility that this shows up. See more of our full-spectrum CBD products that we carry at The Green Dragon CBD.
