Peanut butter and jelly, salt and pepper, gin and tonic… some things just pair together perfectly! Well, here’s another dynamic duo that you can add to the list…CBD and Melatonin! For so many out there that face difficulty sleeping and insomnia, both CBD and melatonin have made impacts for many and even more so when combined. Here’s a little more on both CBD and Melatonin and how they can combine to conjure up sweet dreams…
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of the many chemical compounds that are found naturally in hemp plants. This “cannabinoid” is a naturally occurring substance that provides many therapeutic benefits by interacting with the human body’s endocannabinoid system. CBD helps many people with different physical and mental health conditions including inflammation, pain relief, anxiety, insomnia and more.
In fact, a 2019 study was conducted to assess whether CBD could improve sleep and reduce anxiety. The study concluded that anxiety levels were lowered and patients had a better night’s sleep. For those who have trouble sleeping due to anxiety or a physical pain, then CBD may be able to help by managing the root of this issue that is ultimately hindering your sleep. CBD has transformed the wellness space and is available in many different forms for a variety of customer’s needs. You can learn more in-depth knowledge about this cannabinoid in our Education Center.
What is Melatonin?
Melatonin is a hormone that helps with the timing of your circadian rhythm and with sleep. Your brain will naturally produce melatonin in response to darkness. This is why you’re ready for bed when you hit the lights. However, melatonin is also a dietary supplement that many use to fall asleep.
Since your brain may block melatonin production when you’re exposed to light when you’re trying to sleep, taking this additional dietary supplement may be beneficial for those who have abnormal sleep schedules for a multitude of reasons. Whether you’re a shift worker or experiencing jet lag, you may have had melatonin suggested to incorporate in your routine.
CBD + Melatonin
On their own, both CBD and Melatonin have been pursued as a solution for sleep. Due to this demand, some CBD products include Melatonin so that it can provide an all-in-one solution. Since these are both natural products, they are harmless to combine. This can be seen as a healthy alternative comparing to sleeping pills that saturate the market. Although there is still a great deal of research to discover, many speculate that CBD and Melatonin work synergistically together.
The important thing to note that individually, CBD and melatonin are not fool-proof sleep aids. However, with the combination of both, Melatonin will help to initially fall asleep by helping reverse any hormonal disruption. CBD also helps you fall asleep but also improves the quality of sleep by resolving any external factors that are hindering sleep such as stress, pain, or anxiety. Additionally, as these are natural solutions, there will not be any withdrawal symptoms or hangovers associated. This is truly a plant-based solution that is appealing to many that would like to give this combination a try.
We hear from a fair number of customers that melatonin does not work for them, or they have some sort of negative reaction in terms of sleep results. It may be the melatonin alone, which is trying to signal your body to sleep, is still being counteracted by the root causes of anxiety or pain. Pairing it with CBD may produce a great result. Of course, if you don’t want to touch melatonin, CBD alone often has a powerful impact on sleep as we have described. The top reasons people take CBD to begin with are sleep, anxiety and chronic pain.
Taking CBD + Melatonin
Although you can take both CBD and Melatonin the old-fashioned way, there are many CBD products from high-quality, trusted brands that include melatonin. Some products that we offer include:
CBDFx CBD + Melatonin Gummies – These gummies combine 50mg of broad-spectrum CBD with 5mg of melatonin. This provides a natural product and a great night’s sleep. A typical serving size is 2 gummies. One customer, Lydia, says “I am sleeping more soundly than I have in years. I used to just use melatonin and it was okay but both together has made quite a difference. I really feel refreshed when I get up in the morning.”
Medterra Good Night Capsules – These capsules deliver 25mg of CBD with a soothing blend of sleep enhancers. The enhancers include melatonin, chamomile, passionflower and GABA. A happy customer, Jessica, shares “I’ve struggled with getting a good night’s sleep for as long as I can remember. I have tried over-the-counter sleeping pills and those have not worked for me at all. But the CBD and Melatonin tablets do the trick for me.”
