What Are the Effects of CBG Flower?

Amanda Russell

In our recent blog, we dove into defining the cannabinoids CBG and CBN and how they stand out from THC and CBD. Cannabigerol (CBG) is one of the more expensive cannabinoids to produce and is generating buzz. Although it does not cause a psychoactive feeling, there are other potential benefits that commonly attribute to this cannabinoid. As CBG steps into the limelight, we’d like to introduce CBG flower to The Green Dragon CBD community. CBG flower is a cannabis flower that includes above average amounts of CBG. Let’s talk more about CBG, CBG flower, and trusted brands that offer this flower.

What is CBG?

Cannabigerol is produced from the foundational molecule Cannabigerolic acid (CBGA). Then, through the process of enzymes converting into cannabinoid acids and decarboxylation, CBGA converts to CBG. Typically, CBG appears in lower amounts in the cannabis plant --  so it can be more costly due to the production requirements.

What is CBG Flower?

Similar to CBD flower, CBG flower contains low levels of THC and is non-intoxicating. This will not cause a “high” or psychoactive experience. The process of producing this is additionally more sensitive compared to CBD flower. Cultivating CBG flower takes skill and precision to ensure none of the potency is lost. When looking at CBG flower, you'll notice slight differences. CBG strains often have a white frosted appearance in the buds which is a good distinction between CBD and THC flower. In fact, the strain can often have the word “white” in its name!

What Are the Effects of CBG?

Although there is a great deal of human evidence that remains, studies have begun to assess its effectiveness in battling neurodegenerative and immune diseases. CBG also seems to be an effective appetite stimulant, anti-bacterial agent, and an anti-inflammatory.

Additionally, CBG flower combines with other cannabinoids or Delta 8 which can impact the effects. For example, consider combining Delta 8 and CBG. While CBG is non-psychoactive, Delta 8 is in fact a psychoactive. This can create something called the “entourage effect.” The entourage effect is the theory that cannabinoids and terpenes work better when they are in full combination of each other and produce a better effect and experience. Ultimately, this can depend on a consumer’s specific wants in their experience.
