CBD for Sex
Let’s talk about sex…. baby. Come on. I had to do it. Seriously, though, it’s time for the birds and the bees talk. Actually, this talk is more “birds and the CBDs”. As we continue to find, CBD keeps proving to help enhance and better a lot of aspects of our lives. Could this boon for health even help, dare I say, our sex lives? Probably!
Now, notice I’m NOT saying that CBD will make you better at sex. CBD can help other things, though, that may be inhibiting your sexual drive or comfort in the bedroom. Let’s dive right into why your sex life might be impacted and how CBD could possibly help you. Let’s also see how many times I can write “sex” in an article.
What’s Wrong With Your Sex Life?
Negative changes in your sex life can stem from SO MANY THINGS. Whether there are outside forces or internal forces at work against you, maybe you can look to CBD for some relief from certain negativities. Are you ready to amp up your sex life? Or maybe just get it going?
First, let’s talk about some things that could be affecting your libido and why they might impact your sex life.
Stress
How can sex be fun if you are constantly worried about… well, anything!? Stress can be a major killer of sex. If your mind is wandering to your worries, how can you enjoy what you’re doing in the moment?
Anxiety and Depression
As with stress, anxiety and depression go hand-in-hand in impacting your desire to have sex and enjoying sex.
Lack of Quality Sleep/Fatigue
Sleepy people probably don’t want to “waste time” having sex and not trying to sleep. Sleep can be a problem on its own, but stress, anxiety, and depression can also lead to bad sleep or no sleep.
Chronic Pain (muscles, headaches, Dyspareunia - genital pain associated with intercourse, etc.)
Pain definitely isn’t conducive to “fun” sex. Especially if you have genital pain. Managing any type of body pain is important… outside of your sex life, as well.
Asthma
Come on, do I have to explain this one? Asthma sufferers have a hard time breathing and, well, you need to breathe during sex… like with any other physical activity (Let’s see how awkward I can make this).
Emotional Intimacy
If your endo-cannabinoid system (ECS) is out of whack, it can affect your mood, which can in turn affect your emotional intimacy. Actually, everything we’ve listed can affect your emotional intimacy as well. Finding balance in your ECS can help promote your emotional intimacy.
While CBD can’t put on glasses, get out a paper and pen, and make you and your partner talk it out, it CAN help reduce some other negative forces that are driving you AWAY from any type of sexual desire (sex with a partner or masterbation).
Erectile Dysfunction
If you suffer from ED, you might look into CBD for relief. First, of course, talk to your doctor in case there are underlying causes of your ED. Read our full blog on CBD for erectile dysfunction here.
Relax! It’s Only Sex
Sex is supposed to be fun, can we all agree on that? So, it makes sense that if you’re nervous, anxious, stressed, or depressed that it can lead to some not-so-awesome sexual performances. Mental relaxation and calmness definitely leads to better sex, you don’t need a scientific study to prove that.
Stress, anxiety, and depression aren’t fun to have around at all. People suffering from these ailments oftentimes have found some relief with CBD products. Maybe social anxiety is stopping you from either meeting a mate or inhibiting your confidence in the bedroom.
CBD could help reduce social anxiety, regular stress, and depression. Read more in-depth on how CBD can relieve some mental illnesses, such as stress, anxiety, and depression in our blog here.
When it comes to mental health medications, some can actually lower your sex drive. Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t take doctor-prescribed medicine, of course. Listen to what your doctor tells you, but some people try CBD for their anxiety or depression either first or along with their prescribed medications.
Don’t Sleep On CBD
Fixing your sleep can help you feel refreshed enough to do a different activity in the bedroom. CBD has been used as a sleep aid to help calm you and relieve your stress enough for you to fall asleep and stay asleep without worry. Looking for CBD products with Melatonin can help increase your quality of sleep and ability to get to sleep, as well.
Sex Shouldn’t Be a Pain
A body in pain isn’t going to think about anything other than the pain. This also isn’t conducive to a fun sexual experience. By using CBD to help control your pain and relieve it, you can promote a better sexual experience… a better, pain-free sexual experience.
CBD has shown to help reduce pain, relax muscles, and ease tension. As CBD is an anti-inflammatory, it can relieve pain by either ingesting orally or applying topically. Oral cbd oil or gummies can be used for overall pain, but if you have pain-specific areas on your body, you can use topical CBD such as salves, lotions, or other topicals.
On top of muscle pain and tension, there’s also that annoying and pretty common head pain; headaches. We’ve all heard the “I have a headache excuse”, right? Well, I don’t want to burst anyone’s bubble that uses that excuse (I’m sorry!), but actual headache sufferers, you may be in luck! We have a full blog dedicated to CBD for Headaches.
Reducing head pain, muscle pain, and other body pains with CBD creates a better sexual environment. We can definitely all agree on that.
Topical CBD For Sex
There are a few ways to use CBD topically when it comes to sex. We already talked about using topical CBD for pain. There are other products out there that are focused primarily on sex-focused benefits.
Some actual CBD sex products include sex oil, or lube as some would like to call it. These oils are meant to be applied to the gential region to promote increased blood flow, which, as we know, is an important part to sex… yes, even to women. During the arousal phase of sex, blood flow increases in the genitals - this is that “warm” feeling you feel… you know, down there.
These oils aren’t gender-specific, so use them on yourself or your partner, no matter who they are. Used topically, CBD works as your skin absorbs it. Your skin has quite a few ECS receptors that absorb the CBD. An important thing to note here, though, is that you can’t use all CBD oils on your skin. They need to be topical, specifically, to work properly.
Just Breathe
Asthma can inhibit a lot of physical activities, one activity, in particular, is sex. CBD can help reduce symptoms of asthma. You can either choose to use CBD oils or gummies, or use a CBD inhaler to get relief quicker. Please note that CBD inhalers don’t have Albuterol in them, so you still need to use your doctor-prescribed inhaler for that medication. For more information on CBD for asthma (or even COPD) read on here.
The Endocannabinoid System and Sex
We’ve talked a lot about the Endocannabinoid System in past articles… it affects quite a bit of what goes on inside our bodies and brains. From mood, stress, energy balance, and pain, the Endocannabinoid System regulates all of this and more… so why wouldn’t the imbalance of this system throw off your sex life?
The sex impactors we’ve already talked about are all regulated, if even just a little, by the ECS (Endocannabinoid System). CBD has shown to help balance your ECS. By using CBD to create that balance, you help relieve some of those negative symptoms of having an imbalanced ECS. Another study also shows that the Endocannabinoid System is involved in female sexual functioning. A better mood, higher energy, less stress, and less pain create a better bedroom experience.
Is “Bedroom CBD” Right For You?
Whether you decide to take sex-specific CBD or just use CBD daily to round out your ECS, you may notice your libido and comfort increase. Better mood and less pain equal better sex, it’s science… kind of. There are so many different CBD products out there and in different flavors (if you choose the edible route). CBD can also be beneficial in providing relief for period cramps! All of the quality products can lead you to a balanced ECS and better sex life. Decide what products you want to try, measure their success, and let us know what products you like the best!
As always, if you have questions or concerns, you can contact our team and we will help you find the product that is best for you.
*Remember, here at The Green Dragon, we are not telling you to give up doctor-prescribed medications. Please talk to your doctor before starting a new health routine.
