What is Mit 9?

Mit 9, or 9-O-desmethylmitragynine (9-ODM), is a metabolite of mitragynine, the main alkaloid found in the kratom plant (Mitragyna speciosa). It’s formed when mitragynine breaks down, either in the body or in a laboratory, through a process called O-demethylation. Mitragynine has a methoxyl group, which is an oxygen bonded to a methyl group, at position 9. When the methyl is taken away, and oxygen remains as a hydroxyl group (an oxygen bonded to a hydrogen), you get the metabolite Mit 9.
